"Real Life Consequences"

Who was in the 55% of drug users according to the National Institute of Drug Abuse in the year 2000?  Was it the honor student with perfect grades, the star quarterback on the varsity team, the energetic adorable cheerleader, the studious computer geek, the trouble maker or the faithful church youth group attendee?  The answer is all of the above.   The fact is that the average age of beginning drug and alcohol abuse among American youth today is twelve years old.  There is no longer such a thing as a typical substance abuser.

Joshua (Brian) was a young man, who was a natural athlete, an average student, very popular with all ages and faithfully attended youth group on Wednesday night and church on Sunday.  It all started with what everyone thinks of as the “usual” experimenting (drinking) that high school students do.  But there is nothing “usual” about the party scene of our youth today.  The parties today include everything from group sex to hard core drug use including date rape drugs.  One night of partying may not take someone’s life but it can steal their future.  See Joshua's Story for more details.
